Check the weather seal

- Look for gaps, tears, or hard spots
- Press it with your hand to see if it still flexes

Test the balance and auto-reverse
A door that is out of balance strains the opener all winter. Pull the release cord and lift the door halfway by hand. It should stay put. If it slams down or shoots up, the springs need attention. Do not adjust torsion springs or cables yourself. They hold enough force to cause serious injury, so leave that to a trained tech.

Clear track ice and debris
- Sweep leaves and grit out of the tracks
- Chip away any ice near the bottom before it builds
- Keep water from pooling at the base, where it can freeze the door shut
